For most of us, a swimming pool is a lagoon-like cavity bordered by a lounge chair. But this dream decor with a summer scent, entails precise and essential instructions. Jean Lermite, Vice-President of the Federation of Swimming Pool Professionals, talks to us about these golden rules that allow us to enjoy the joys of swimming in complete safety. Interview by Emmanuelle Maran

What should you favor in the construction of your swimming pool?

Whether in the materials or in the standards imposed, the security is the common denominator in any approach. A swimming pool is like a house, it must be solid. It is for this reason that we recommend concrete for the construction of its swimming pool. In addition to being solid and durable it is unalterable. In addition, it is one of the only materials covered by decennial insurance. As for the safety standards imposed by the legislator, they are not to be taken lightly! Far from being a constraint, they impose themselves, almost logically, especially when there are seven deaths of children under the age of five in 2008! Today, four security systems are available: alarm, shelter, cover or barrier, they are there to warn and alert. However, the danger has not been ruled out; no safety device can replace the vigilance of an adult. Note that the professional builder does not have the authorization to fill the pool without a safety device. The individual must be equipped with a security system after which the manufacturer gives them a technical note approving the device in question.

What are the water maintenance instructions?

It all depends on the objectives chosen. Today there are many solutions and each solution has its advantages , the choice is yours. Know that many of us rely on manual water treatment. But the downside to this remedy is the use of chemicals like chlorine. However, they involve relatively modest spending throughout the year and remain very effective. For the less economical, there are other systems, more expensive to buy, but ultimately quickly amortized over the long term. The salt electrolysis process is one of them: it is a natural treatment of water with sodium chloride which, by electrolysis becomes a very efficient anti-bacterial. As for the algae, they are now treated by UV, or by the combination of active oxygen and metering pumps.

What about water heating?

Today, we are looking to automate our swimming pool, in order to remove the maximum of constraints for the consumer. In the green age, swimming pool water heating systems are on the move. We have therefore developed systems with heat pumps, very space-saving, concerned with energy saving. The results are more than convincing: 4 to 5 KWATTS returned for 1 KWATT paid. This very good yield allows you to keep water at 28 ° C from May 1 to September 30, hoping, to enhance this idyll, that the good weather is there!
