To remove existing paneling, a priori, nothing simpler, provided they have been nailed. A screwdriver or crowbar will do. Take it easy all the same! Be particularly careful if you want to recover the paneling and reuse it later. See if the nailing was done with headless or flat-headed points. In the case of headless points, use a fairly large wood chisel. Slide it between the cleat and the paneling and gently pry. The hole will be visible but it can be reused. For tips with head, we operate in the same way but taking care not to split the paneling because the head sinks slightly during handling. On the other hand, if the paneling has been glued, then there, good luck! Use a crowbar or wood chisel and take it easy to minimize the damage. In any case, there is a good chance that the plaster will come with it. So you will have to redo the wall next.
