Very decorative, the tiebacks are used to keep the curtains open. Simple little chains, very ornate trimmings, in the same fabric and almost invisible on the curtains ... they reflect the atmosphere of your room.

The choice of trade

There are many manufacturers and specialty stores that will offer a variety of tiebacks to coordinate with your curtains. Do not forget also the small supports, to plant or screw into the wall, which will allow you to attach them.

Make room for creation

The creation of tiebacks remains a fun and inexpensive way to try your hand at decoration! Let your imagination run wild…

• In pearls: choose large multicolored pearls whose colors are in harmony with your fabric. Thread them on a string or raffia for a very natural atmosphere, a ribbon to underline a romantic curtain, heavy gauge fishing line in a more contemporary room…
In a country house, a beautiful plant embrace, in ivy or laurel braid, will be of the most beautiful effect. Play the Robinson Crusaders by the sea, putting shells on string to hold your curtains.

The step by step

Kiss model with acorn

To play with natural materials, here is how to make a beautiful tie in twine with a coordinated tassel 20 cm long. You will need: 12 m of natural twine, 4 m of ecru cotton cord, 10 x 100 cm of ecru linen, 30 cm of guipure or old white or ecru lace, 20 cm of small diameter wire, pliers cutting.

Cut the string into four equal parts and braid the first three.

In the linen, cut five strips of 1 x 100 cm. Remove the protruding threads on each side to form tiny fringed edges.

Cut each strip into two equal parts to obtain ten strips of 1 x 50 cm.

Divide the rest of the string into six and cut four lengths of 50 cm of cord.

Place all the elements on top of each other, mixing them as you wish: twine, linen, cord.

Hold all of these fringes together, tightening them with the middle of your twine braid.

Untwist the string and cord by hand, then fold it in half at the tie. To form the glans, wrap the fringes 5 cm below the fold with the wire. Twist the tip, cut the excess and tuck the rest of the wire into the glans.

In the remaining linen, cut a 10 x 15 cm rectangle, fold it in half.

Cut out about 15 cm of guipure and sew it astride the edge of the two layers of linen.

Surround the acorn with the rectangle of linen embellished with guipure by placing it on the wire, which it will hide. Make as many turns as possible, then hold it by a few points.

Equalize the fringes to reach the appropriate glans length ... Do not cut too much: shorten little by little, because a glans that is too short is always quite inelegant!
